About Busby Trailhead

The Busby Trailhead offers access to an expansive hiking area in Savoy Mountain State Forest. The Busby Trail, which leaves directly from the trailhead, is a well-known hike that leads to panoramic scenic views at the top of Spruce Hill. The pathway starts on a gradual incline through a Western Massachusetts forest. Plenty of local wildlife species, including birds and amphibians, will be visible along the trail throughout the spring and summer.

As the trail nears its end, it will ascend a steep ravine and climb numerous steps. The path will then open onto a picturesque overlook. From this viewpoint, visitors can see west toward Adams, Mount Greylock, and the Berkshires beyond. Also, when the weather cools in the fall, this outlook showcases the vibrance of fall foliage on the mountains.

To return to the parking lot, visitors can travel back on the Busby Trail or trek on the Lost Pond Trail for a complete loop. The Lost Pond Trail is a steep and muddy challenge for experienced hikers.

Visitors will find a small parking area on the side of Central Shaft Road, just after the park headquarters.
