Information
This trailhead provides access to two pathways in Savoy Mountain State Forest. The Burnett Pond Trail, on the south side of Florida Road, is only available for hiking. The pathway travels through a dense grove of pines and crosses multiple streams. Eventually, hikers will arrive at Burnett Pond: a body of water with scenic views of the surrounding Western Massachusetts forest. When autumn begins, this pond bursts with the oranges and yellows of fall foliage. It is also an excellent place for wildlife viewing; amphibians and waterfowl are easily seen throughout the spring and summer. The Shake Trail is either a 3.3 mile out and back or 5.4 mile loop.
On the north side of Florida Road, visitors will find the Black Bear Trail, perfect for hiking and snowmobiling. This wide gravel trail meets with the Shaker Trail, which eventually heads toward the Mahican-Mohawk long-distance pathway.
Savoy Mountain State Forest is a large outdoor recreation area with plenty of opportunities for an enjoyable day in the Berkshires. The forest features campsites, swimming areas, and over 50 miles of hiking trails. In the summertime, the forest has various programming for overnight visitors at the local campground. The area is also open for hunting during the appropriate seasons.
Visitors will find a large parking lot on the north side of Florida Road.

This site has a large gravel parking area. There are some aggregate gravel chunks 1-2'' in diameter. The lot is flat apart from the aggregate and loose gravel. There are two trails. The first is a gravel/rocky path, the second is a grassy path. The gravel path has large (>2'' in diameter) rocks. The grass path can be unmaintained, making it difficult to navigate through the tall grass on the path. The grass trail is uneven, while the gravel trail is flat. The entrance to both trails are blocked by fences, with 3-foot-wide gaps on one side of the fence.
