Things to do in Washington

The Appalachian Trail passes through the town of Washington for approximately 12 miles, with trailheads on Boltz Road, County Road, and Washington Mountain Road.  October Mountain State Forest represents a large portion of the community’s land area, containing Felton Pond, Finnerty Pond, and the October Mountain Reservoir, each boasting excellent opportunities for wildlife viewing, along with the Washington Mountain Marsh Trail, a destination for hiking and snowshoeing on longer but relatively flat terrain. The community has a small Town Park on Route 8 near the Department of Public Works.  The Parks Commission welcomes group reservations - information is available on the town’s website.
