The Housatonic River is a dominant feature in the town of Sheffield.  Access is available at the Sheffield Covered Bridge and Rannapo Road in the village of Ashley Falls.

Three Mile Pond Wildlife Management Area includes the 168-acre Three Mile Pond, part of the more than 1,000-acre site open to hunting, trapping, fishing, hiking, and wildlife viewing.

Bartholomew’s Cobble Reservation, a Trustees of Reservations property, is home to bobolinks (a ground-nesting bird), and more than 800 plant species.

Dolomite Ledges Wildlife and nearby Race Brook Falls have challenging trails that follow the ravine to Mount Everett and the Appalachian Trail, which passes through the town for almost 10 miles.
