Things to do in Peru

With a population of just over 800, the town of Peru is located on the eastern edge of Berkshire County.  Peru has a number of state forests and wildlife management areas, including the Peru Wildlife Management Area, Frances Rice Wildlife Refuge, and the Peru State Forest.  The town is heavily wooded and, like nearby Windsor, has a mean elevation above 2,000 feet.  Lake Ashmere’s eastern edge is part of the town and features several long-standing summer camps.  The rural nature of this “hill town” makes it popular with hunters and snowmobilers.
