About Felton Trail

The Felton Trail is located within the October Mountain State Forest in Washington, MA. This wide dirt trail is designed for motorized vehicles such as dirt bikes and ATVs. At the trailhead, a sign accurately indicates that the trail is "rugged and rocky," which describes its steep hills, sharp turns, roots, and rocks that add an extra challenge for riders. Consequentially, this might be a more challenging ride for both visitors on motorized vehicles and mountain bikes, but it is a beautiful trail to hike and follow for access to Felton Pond.

Winding through October Mountain State Forest, the forest displays the vastly diverse wilderness and scenery prevalent in Western Massachusetts. Countless bird and animal species call this forest home, such as white-tailed deer, turkeys, barred owls, and even bears, so riders and hikers should watch to spot them rustling through the underbrush or soaring through the treetops. A wide variety of vegetation and fungi make this part of the forest one of the more vibrant parts of the Berkshires.

October Mountain is 16,500 acres, making it the largest state forest in Massachusetts. Its expansive area provides space for an abundance of additional outdoor recreation opportunities, such as snowmobiling or hunting. As a state forest, October Mountain is owned and managed by the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation. Their website linked below lists site-specific rules and updates.
