Information
The October Mountain Campground is a popular destination for visitors interested in enjoying the countless opportunities in the October Mountain area. This campground offers visitors large sites sheltered by towering pines and evergreen trees, each with a fire pit and at least one picnic table to enjoy a picnic or barbecue in the shade of October Mountain. Each campsite is separated from the others by enough space and vegetation to provide privacy from other visitors. Hiking trails at the campground lead visitors straight into October Mountain State Park. The forest these trails course through is home to various wildlife, such as white-tailed deer, foxes, and other mammals, as well as many bird species of Western Massachusetts.
The campground offers large parking areas for cars and larger vehicles such as campers. Visitors should note that while the road to the campground is paved, it is also narrow and a bit steep. However, the facilities at the campground, which include full bathrooms and facilities, make this a worthwhile destination for staying overnight to enjoy the beauty that is the wilderness of the Berkshires and a perfect place to enjoy nature at the foot of October Mountain.

The October Mountain Campground offers a labyrinth of paved pathways that connect different areas together. Many of these roads are steep and uneven, most notably between the different “levels” of the Campground. The 1st level of the campground is the flattest and the most accessible. Paths through the 1st level offer grades below 5%. Restroom buildings are accessible via concrete pathways on the 1st and 2nd levels. The 3rd level features the Yurt camping site, which is connected via loose gravel pathways. Nearby trail access to the adjacent Eagle Ledge trail is accessible via an uneven dirt path. The Eagle Ledge trail itself is moderately steep, with sustained slopes of 15-20% over dirt and rocks. A nearby parking area, a few hundred feet down the road from the campground at the forest office, offers additional parking over grass for at least ten cars and the potable water station.
