About Gorge Trail

The Gorge Trail is a hiking trail in October Mountain State Forest in Lee, MA. This trail is a challenge, as from the start, it climbs up a steep trail along the side of a rocky gorge. This gorge is filled with vegetation, and the stream coursing through it creates tranquil pools and waterfalls that add a lovely backdrop to the quiet forest scenery of the Berkshires. While this trail is occasionally buggy, the forest floor is covered in splashes of color in the form of mushrooms. From brown to orange to red and even purple, hikers can enjoy spotting the colorful organisms that call October Mountain home.

This trail is a 0.8-mile hike to Felton Lake, a stunning spot hidden in the woods of Western Massachusetts. Multiple picnic tables on the grassy area adjacent to the water make this a wonderful place to picnic near the lake and see some wildlife cooling off in the crystal-clear water. The Gorge Trail includes two trails of similar length on each edge of the gorge so that hikers can enjoy two different paths in the same area. The trailhead and parking lot are at the end of Woodland Road, a dirt road going through the forest, so visitors should prepare for imperfect road conditions.
