About Marble Street Athletic Field

Marble Street Athletic Field contains a medium-sized playground, softball field, two basketball hoops, and open space in a Lee neighborhood, offering multiple fun things to do in the Berkshires. The playground has many entertaining pieces of play equipment, including a swingset, slide, climbing wall, monkey bars, jungle gyms, and more. Most equipment is on a woodchip surface, though a few features are on grass. Picnic tables and benches provide comfortable areas to supervise play or take a break for lunch.

The ballfield is a standard-sized softball field with outfield walls 200 feet from home plate, and bases are spread 60 feet apart. The field is the official home of the Lee girls' youth softball program, but it can also be used as a Little League-sized baseball field. However, the entirely dirt infield makes it more suitable for softball if competitive play is desired. There are no dugouts, but a couple benches along the first- and third-base lines offer seating. Next to the baseball field is a small blacktop with two 10-foot basketball hoops. The court is a bit worn, so it is better for practicing shots than a competitive game.

Open space is scattered throughout the park, offering plenty of room to fly a kite, run around, or even create a makeshift soccer or football field. Since the grass is mowed periodically, these fields can be excellent spots for picnicking or reading a book in a peaceful environment. Most areas are exposed to the sun, but many spots near the playground offer shade under canopies of maple trees, which become especially pleasant as fall descends upon Western Massachusetts.

The park can be accessed on the west side of Marble Street, with a 16-space parking lot.

  • Accessible Parking

The parking area for the Marble Street Athletic Park consists of a large flat lot consisting of loose gravel. This space holds room for at least 20 cars to park. There is one portable restroom located adjacent to the parking lot. Roadside parking is also available between the park fence and Marble Street, over grass. There are two accessible parking spaces on the roadside, which are located adjacent to the baseball field. While both the playground and baseball fields are flat, there is a downward hill between the playground and field, which contains grades of 5-10%. Playground features are separated by grass, and lay over woodchips. Standard wooden bleachers provide an area to spectate facing the ballpark.
