Wildlife Viewing | Snowshoeing | Hiking
The Finnerty Trail is a wonderful location for visitors looking to fully immerse themselves in the beautiful wilderness of the Berkshires on an off-road vehicle. The trailhead for this area is in Lee, MA, and is part of the October Mountain State Forest. The trail itself is a wide path constructed primarily of dirt, gravel, and stones—it is a moderately challenging trail for ORV and mountain bike riders but is a beautiful hike. At the trail's end is a view of Finnerty Pond, a large, tranquil body of water hidden within October Mountain State Forest. Visitors to the pond can enjoy the calm, quiet landscape and look for some of the many animals in the area. Animals such as beavers, geese, white-tailed deer, and turkeys frequently reside near the pond, but lucky visitors might even spot a moose or black bear.
Parking is available near the trailhead, where visitors can unload their ORVs and mountain bikes, and plentiful signage and markings at the trailhead are available. The Finnerty Trail is open year-round, as even in the snow, visitors can enjoy the scenery, whether it be on cross-country skis, snowshoes, or snowmobiles. Due to its beautiful landscape and easy accessibility, the Finnerty Trail is an excellent location for a family-friendly outing hidden in Western Massachusetts.
