About Hamlet and Fitzroy Trailhead

This trailhead brings visitors to Burnett Pond in Savoy Mountain State Forest. Upon arrival at the parking lot, visitors will greet a wide double-track hiking trail through the forest. This trail will lead visitors to Burnett Pond, which is surrounded by a serene grove of spruces and pines. Though visitors cannot swim in this pond, it is perfect for kayaking or canoeing on a hot summer day. Visitors can portage their watercraft and watch the ripples echo through the water.

The Burnett Pond hiking trail continues past the pond and treks through dense forest. This pathway is ideal for encountering local Western Massachusetts wildlife species; birds and insects are easily heard throughout the spring and summer. Across the street, visitors can also access the H.H. Fitzroy Trail: a snowmobiling trail that travels through forests and meadows toward Adams Road.

Savoy Mountain State Forest is a large outdoor recreation area with plenty of opportunities for an enjoyable day in the Berkshires. The forest features campsites, swimming areas, and over 50 miles of hiking trails. In the summertime, the forest has various programming for overnight visitors at the local campground. The area is also open for hunting during the appropriate seasons.

There is a large parking lot on New State Road.
