About Tannery Falls Trailhead

The Tannery Falls Trailhead is the parking area for a well-known series of cascades in Savoy Mountain State Forest. At the parking lot, visitors will find a hiking trail that heads into a tranquil Western Massachusetts forest. Eventually, the path travels alongside a rushing brook and provides excellent views of water flowing over mossy rocks. The trail then continues to descend through the forest on well-built wooden steps. As visitors reach the bottom of the ravine, they will be able to see a tall 100-foot waterfall. This is an ideal spot for a mid-hike picnic; the rushing water is both mesmerizing and soothing. It is a 0.5 mile out and back trail.

After visiting the falls, visitors will have a steep hike back to the top of the trail. For a loop trail, hikers can cross the stream, walk along Parker Brook, and access more scenic views.

Savoy Mountain State Forest is a large outdoor recreation area with plenty of opportunities for an enjoyable day in the Berkshires. The forest features campsites, swimming areas, and over 50 miles of hiking trails. The area is open for hunting during the appropriate seasons.

Visitors will find a large parking lot on the shoulder of Tannery Road. Along the road, other multi-use trails offer additional space for hiking, cross-country skiing, and snowmobiling. Tannery Road is seasonal and becomes a groomed snowmobile trail in the winter. In winter it may look passable or recently plowed when groomed, but wheeled vehicles are prohibited.

There are no accessible features at this location.

This site has a large, uneven gravel parking lot. There are loose rocks as large as 2'' in diameter. The lot and trail can both get muddy, depending on rainfall and the season. The Tannery Falls site has several trails that go around the stream. The trails are 4' wide, but uneven, and covered with roots, loose sticks, and pine needles. There are 8'' high wooden steps down the main trail. The trails can become slippery because of the stream and rainfall.
