About Savoy Kanary Kats and Fitzroy Trailhead

This trailhead brings visitors to two separate trails in Savoy Mountain State Forest. Both trails are available for hiking in the summertime and snowmobiling during winter.

Going south, visitors will trek along the Kanary Kats Trail, which eventually meets with the Kamick Trail. On the north side of the road, visitors will travel to Burnett Pond on the H.H. Fitzroy trail. Both trails showcase dense Western Massachusetts forests with fern meadows and small red spruces. During the springtime, wildflowers often sprout along the side of the paths. Then, when summer arrives, an abundance of wildlife is easily visible. Birds and butterflies are often seen on warm sunny days.

Savoy Mountain State Forest is a large outdoor recreation area with plenty of opportunities for an enjoyable day in the Berkshires. The forest features campsites, swimming areas, and over 50 miles of hiking trails. In the summertime, the forest has various programming for overnight visitors at the local campground. The area is also open for hunting during the appropriate seasons.

Visitors should park on the shoulder of Adams Road near the entrance to the two trails. This trailhead is not accessible by car during winter, so visitors must enter by foot or snowmobile.
