About Lewis Hill Trailhead

The Lewis Hill Trailhead leads to a hiking and snowmobiling trail in Savoy Mountain State Forest. The route leaves from Tannery Road and heads up a steep hill, where visitors will travel through fern meadows and sprawling birch forests. The trail is carpeted by fresh wild strawberries in late June, and an abundance of local wildlife is visible throughout the summer. Eventually, after a few miles of walking, the pathway will connect to Adams Road and the network of trails in the southern portion of the forest.

The trailhead is also the site of an informational sign about timber harvesting in the state forest. Visitors there can read about the harvesting efforts and their effects on habitat restoration in this Western Massachusetts ecosystem.

Savoy Mountain State Forest is a large outdoor recreation area with plenty of opportunities for an enjoyable day in the Berkshires. The forest features campsites, swimming areas, and over 50 miles of hiking trails. In the summertime, the forest has various programming for overnight visitors at the local campground. The area is also open for hunting during the appropriate seasons.

This road is unmaintained and only open during summer; drivers should proceed at their own risk. There is no parking at the trailhead, so visitors should park at the Tannery Trailhead - West

Accessibility Assessment

There are no accessible features at this location.

This site has no designated parking, so visitors must walk a 7% steep gravel road from the Tannery West Trail parking area, for 0.2 miles. The trail is unmaintained, and therefore covered with grass, large sticks, and stones. It is roughly 3' wide, but difficult to determine because of the overgrown grass.
