Savoy Mountain State Forest
Savoy, MA
Hunting | Horseback Riding | Hiking
The Savoy Mountain State Forest Campground is an expansive, family-friendly camping area with RV sites, tent sites, and cabins, open from May to October. Visitors will find a picnic table, fire pit, and bear box at each campsite. While some campsites are in the woods, others are on a manicured lawn. In the summertime, during July and August, the State Forest has programming for visitors of all ages.
The campground connects to a small beach on South Pond. A trail to North Pond also offers a beach, park grills, and a launch for canoeing and kayaking. Both of these ponds have scenic views of the surrounding Western Massachusetts forest ecosystem. Plenty of wildlife species, such as amphibians and waterfowl, are easy to see throughout the spring and summer. Then, when the weather cools in autumn, the leaves become painted with the oranges and yellows of fall foliage.
Many hiking trails leave directly from the campground and sprawl throughout the forest. The area is also open for hunting during the appropriate seasons in the Berkshires.
Visitors will find the campground on Central Shaft Road before it moves from pavement to gravel. There are no RV hookups, but there are dumping sites. Camping is by reservation only, no walk-ins allowed.
