About North Pond Boat Launch

The North Pond Boat Launch is an ideal starting point for a day of canoeing or kayaking in Savoy Mountain State Forest. Visitors to the boat launch will arrive at a long gravel driveway that turns right and gently slopes into the water. Boat ramp is Load/Unload Only.

Overall, North Pond provides a picturesque spot to paddle and relax on warm days in Western Massachusetts. The pond is surrounded by scenic views of a local forest ecosystem, which bursts with oranges and yellows when the fall foliage arrives. There are also plenty of wildlife-viewing opportunities in the pond. Waterfowl often swim across the pond’s waters, and amphibians are easily heard in spring and summer. Fishing is also excellent throughout the year.

Savoy Mountain State Forest is a large outdoor recreation area with many opportunities for an enjoyable day in the Berkshires. The forest features campsites, swimming areas, and over 50 miles of hiking trails. The area is also open for hunting during the appropriate seasons.

There is one parking spot on the right side of the boat launch (Handicap parking only), but the rest of the driveway is not open for parking. Visitors can also park at the swimming area for North Pond, which offers picnic tables, grills, and bathroom facilities.
