Information
The Dunbar Brook Trail Picnic Area is perfect for a short family-friendly pitstop on warm summer days in Western Massachusetts. The picnic area travels alongside the Deerfield River, well-known for fly-fishing, rafting, and whitewater kayaking.
Upon arrival at the parking lot, visitors will see an expansive lawn with picnic tables, grills, and a swing set. This area is perfect for barbecues and picnics with family or friends. Visitors can bring lunch, grill food, and then listen to the river echo throughout the property. Kids can meanwhile play on the swingset or run around on the lawn.
The picnic area is surrounded by a forest of tall trees, which provide plenty of wildlife viewing opportunities. Numerous local bird species, including hawks and herons, are visible in this ecosystem throughout the spring and summer. Beyond the forest, visitors will also greet scenic views of the surrounding Berkshires. Eventually, when the weather cools in autumn, these hills turn yellow and orange with the vibrance of fall foliage.
Visitors will find a large parking area off River Road, just before the Dunbar Brook Trailhead. There are bathroom facilities and portable toilets open throughout the summer and fall.
