About Raycroft Overlook

This parking area will bring visitors to the beginning of the Hunt Hill Trail. This hiking/ATV trail descends on a two-track before arriving at a powerline field. At the powerlines, visitors will greet expansive scenic views of the surrounding Berkshires. Toward the west, visitors can see the Whitcomb Summit alongside Route 2. Then, beyond this summit, the peak of Mount Greylock rises above the nearby mountains. When the weather begins to cool in autumn, this overlook showcases the vibrant yellows and oranges of fall foliage.

The Hunt Hill Trail continues past this powerline field and gradually narrows as it climbs down the slope for 1-mile. Eventually, visitors will reach a stone terrace built into the mountains. This overlook—the Raycroft Overlook—features the valley surrounding the Deerfield River. Visitors can relax, picnic, and watch the clouds pass overhead. Many Western Massachusetts bird species, such as hawks and herons, will be visible within the valley throughout spring and summer.

Visitors will find parking for Monroe Lookout at the end of Hunt Hill Trail, which is unmaintained. Drivers should proceed at their own risk. There is also a more accessible parking area where Monroe Road intersects with the Hunt Hill Trail.
