Appalachian Trail Trailhead - Rockwell Road
Mount Greylock State Reservation
Williamstown, MA
Snowshoeing | Hiking
The Mount Greylock Visitor Center is a perfect launch point for an enjoyable day of outdoor recreation in Western Massachusetts. Upon arriving at the parking lot, visitors will greet an impressive scenic view of the Berkshires toward the southwest. When the sun sets over the surrounding mountains, visitors can bring their car and picnic in the parking lot.
The visitor center itself, meanwhile, provides hikers with plenty of information about the State Reservation. The park staff is often there to help visitors determine their itinerary for a day in the park, and there are also various exhibits about the area's history.
Then, the visitor center features an expansive trail network on the parking lot's east side. The Bradley Farm Interpretive Trail, a family-friendly hike that travels about 2 miles, leaves from the parking lot and guides visitors through the surrounding ecosystem. This hike also connects to other trails in the park, eventually leading to Mount Greylock's summit, eight miles away. A rigorous hike. When Rockwell Road is closed in wintertime, the visitors center is an excellent trailhead for a long hike to the peak.
Visitors will find a large parking lot on Rockwell Road, which branches from Greylock Road north of Lanesborough. Pets are not permitted inside the Visitor Center, but service animals are. The State Reservation is open for hunting from October to May; however, it is prohibited within the Summit's War Memorial Park any time of the year.
