Appalachian Trail Trailhead - Rockwell Road
Mount Greylock State Reservation
Williamstown, MA
Snowshoeing | Hiking
This trailhead will bring visitors to a small hiking area within Mount Greylock State Reservation, perfect for a short pitstop in the Berkshires. The Sugarloaf Trail–a 1.0-mile family-friendly hiking and mountain biking trail–leaves from the parking lot and heads into a dense forest of maples and birches. Visitors will slowly climb through fern meadows before descending to Ingraham Road. Plenty of local Western Massachusetts wildlife species, including songbirds and amphibians, will be visible on this trail throughout the summer. Visitors will also see many wildflowers sprout from the forest floor in the early spring.
There is a small parking lot off Bauers Road, which is unmaintained. Drivers should proceed at their own risk. Visitors will find a more extensive hiking area further south, on Rockwell Road. The State Reservation is open for hunting from October to May; however, it is prohibited within the Summit's War Memorial Park any time of the year.
