About Potter Mountain Trailhead

Potter Mountain Trailhead will bring visitors to an extensive hiking and OHV trail network in Pittsfield State Forest. This parking lot, specifically, is intended for ATVs and snowmobiles during the appropriate seasons. Upon entering the parking lot, visitors find numerous trails sprawling throughout the surrounding forest ecosystem. This forest features many local wildlife species, including songbirds and amphibians. Eventually, continuing on the paths, visitors will find small ponds and expansive scenic views at the top of the nearby mountains. The trail is 1.8 miles, but there are shorter paths that connect to the trail at various spots making the trail suitable for those seeking any range of distances.

Pittsfield State Forest is a large park on the west side of Pittsfield. Overall, visitors will have several options for an excellent day of outdoor recreation in Western Massachusetts. Visitors can go camping, hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding throughout the summer. The wintertime, meanwhile, offers opportunities to go cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. Many trails are open for ATVs and snowmobiles. The forest is also available for hunting during the appropriate seasons.

Visitors will find parking on the shoulder of Potter Mountain Road, which branches from Churchill Street west of Balance Rock Road. The main parking area for Pittsfield State Forest can be found at the end of Cascade Street, which is further south along Churchill Street in Pittsfield.
