About Berry Pond

Berry Pond is the highest natural body of water in Massachusetts. Surrounding the pond is an expansive camping and hiking area in Pittsfield State Forest.

Visitors will find several hiking trails that spread throughout the forest, providing many opportunities to see local wildlife. At Tilden Swamp, just south of Berry Pond, visitors will see a beaver dam and plenty of waterfowl.

Pittsfield State Forest is a large park on the west side of Pittsfield. Overall, visitors will have several options for an excellent day of outdoor recreation in Western Massachusetts. Visitors can go camping, hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding throughout the summer. The wintertime, meanwhile, offers opportunities to go cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. Many trails are open for ATVs and snowmobiles. The forest is also available for hunting during the appropriate seasons.

There is a small gravel area near the pond that may be used for parking. There is also a grass area near the pond that can serve for parking. Visitors may also choose to walk to the pond from a campsite.

Before reaching the pond on the circuit road, drivers will also see a small pull-off with expansive scenic views of the surrounding Berkshires. When the weather cools in autumn, these mountains burst with the oranges and yellows of fall foliage.
