The CCC Ski Lodge Trailhead will bring visitors to an extensive hiking area in Pittsfield State Forest. Visitors will leave the parking lot and find the Tranquility Trail: a paved, family-friendly trail through the forest. Plenty of local wildlife species, including songbirds and amphibians, will be easily heard on this trail throughout the spring and summer. Then, beyond the Tranquility Trail, hikers will head onto the Turner Trail or the Parker Brook Trail, which both climb toward scenic views of Berry Pond and Tilden Swamp.
Across the street, visitors will also find a CCC building alongside a small picnic area. Visitors can bring lunch, picnic, and then rest in the shade.
Pittsfield State Forest is a large park on the west side of Pittsfield. Overall, visitors will have several options for an excellent day of outdoor recreation in Western Massachusetts. Visitors can go camping, hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding throughout the summer. The wintertime, meanwhile, offers opportunities to go cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. Many trails are open for ATVs and snowmobiles. The forest is also available for hunting during the appropriate seasons.
Visitors will find the parking lot on the Berry Pond Circuit Road, just near its conclusion on Cascade Street. The top of the Berry Pond Circuit features beautiful scenic views of the surrounding mountains.
