This parking area will connect visitors with an expansive ATV trail network in Pittsfield State Forest. At the parking lot, several trails spread throughout the nearby forest ecosystem. Plenty of local wildlife species, including birds and amphibians, are visible in this environment throughout the year.
After traveling away from the parking lot, visitors can reach the Griffin Trail or the Taconic Skyline Trail. Both of these trails lead toward the ridgeline of the Taconic Mountains, which often provide scenic views of the surrounding Berkshires. Eventually, visitors will arrive at Berry Pond.
Pittsfield State Forest is a large park on the west side of Pittsfield. Overall, visitors will have several options for an excellent day of outdoor recreation in Western Massachusetts. Visitors can go camping, hiking, mountain biking, and horseback riding throughout the summer. The wintertime, meanwhile, offers opportunities to go cross-country skiing and snowshoeing. Many trails are open for ATVs and snowmobiles. The forest is also available for hunting during the appropriate seasons.
Visitors will find a large parking lot on the shoulder of Route 20. The parking lot has large spots, perfect for vehicles with trailers. Further down westbound Route 20, a hiking trailhead can be found in the vehicle pull-off area.
