Cheshire Cobble Trailhead
Chalet WMA
Cheshire, MA
Snowshoeing | Hunting | Hiking
This parking lot will bring visitors to Chalet Wildlife Management Area: an expansive undeveloped property spread throughout the surrounding region. After parking, visitors will hike on Gulf Road and enter a dense forest ecosystem. These woods are dominated by maples and beeches, and the forest floor often has fern meadows and wildflowers. Gulf Road will eventually connect visitors to The Boulders and its extensive network of hiking trails.
Wildlife viewing is excellent at all times of the year in this Western Massachusetts forest. In addition to birds, plenty of other animal species—including moose—live in Chalet WMA. The area is also great for hunting. Bear, turkey, white-tailed deer, and other game species thrive in these undeveloped woods. Some parts of the forest also provide spanning views of the Berkshires.
There is no designated parking lot for this section of Chalet WMA, and most of Gulf Road is closed throughout the year. Visitors will find a small parking spot on the south side of Gulf Road in Lanesborough, just before the street becomes closed to cars. There is another parking lot on Gulf Road in Dalton, where visitors can access The Boulders and the Appalachian Trail.
