About South State Road Parking Area

This southern parking area for Chalet WMA will bring visitors into a serene forest. Upon arrival, visitors will immediately walk through a thick brush. Then, after crossing through a powerline field, this dense brush opens into a tranquil maple grove. During the summertime, the sound of birds overwhelms the trees of these woods, along with the rush of a babbling brook.

Wildlife viewing is excellent at all times of the year in this Western Massachusetts forest. In addition to birds, plenty of other animal species—including moose—live in Chalet WMA. The area is also great for hunting. Bear, turkey, white-tailed deer, and other game species thrive in these undeveloped woods. Some parts of the forest also provide spanning views of the Berkshires.

Parking for this part of Chalet WMA is at the end of a dirt driveway off State Road. Visitors should turn into the Honda dealership entrance and continue towards the right.
