About Finnerty Pond Trail

The Finnerty Pond Trail offers riders a fun and engaging off-road vehicle trail riding and hiking experience through the scenic October Mountain State Forest. This trail is a broad, hilly road made primarily of rocks and gravel, making it a more challenging route for experienced riders. Whether on an ORV, mountain bike, or hiking, visitors can enjoy this trail as it winds its way through the unique forest landscapes of the Berkshires, making its way toward the beautiful Finnerty Pond. At Finnerty Pond, visitors can engage with the Western Massachusetts wilderness by spotting some of the wildlife that calls this spot home. Countless bird species, such as great blue herons, geese, and owls, can be found at October Mountain and the pond, along with mammals such as beavers, white-tailed deer, and coyotes.

The trailhead for this location has a parking lot for unloading ORVs and mountain bikes and is accessible from County Road, which connects to the main roads that course through October Mountain State Forest. Therefore, visitors can easily enjoy the Finnerty Pond Trail, as well as explore the vast array of other hiking trails, ponds, and forest ecosystems that the state forest has to offer. This trail is a destination that no visitors interested in riding mountain bikes or ORVs in the Berkshires should miss.
