Things to do in Hinsdale
Hinsdale is home to just under 2,000 residents and several summer camps. About 2.5 miles of the Appalachian Trail passes through the community. The East Branch of the Housatonic River originates in the swampy areas around the Hinsdale Flats Wildlife Management Area. The 3-mile out-and-back Old Mill Trail offers visitors the opportunity to hike along the river and learn about local history through interpretive signage and brochures.
Lake Ashmere is split by Route 143 with basins to both the North and South. The southern basin has a boat ramp and a dam along the southern shore. Plunkett Reservoir offers a boat launch and a small, family-friendly beach with a parking area, seasonal restrooms, and picnic tables.
