The Hinsdale Flats Wildlife Management Area is an exceptional area along the East Branch of the Housatonic River. The WMA offers fish and wildlife habitat and extensive wetlands. Muddy Pond, located at the south end of the area, is the headwaters of the Housatonic River. The WMA offers hunting opportunities for turkey, white-tail deer, black bear, waterfowl, American woodcock, ruffed grouse, and Ring-necked pheasants. Fishing in the Housatonic is also an option, and anglers may get sunfish, perch, bass, pickerel, and trout.
Parking is available in a series of fields off of an old driveway on Middlefield Road that is open during hunting season.
