Baumann Road Parking Area
Peru WMA
Peru, MA
Hunting | Fishing
The Peru Road Parking area provides informal car spaces and an access point to the northern portion of the Peru Wildlife Management Area in Windsor. Peru WMA is roughly 5,000 acres and spans across the towns of Peru and Windsor. The property consists of forested land comprised of diverse tree species, with open fields and minor water bodies scattered throughout.
Adjacent to Peru Road are small, maintained fields ideal for hunting pheasant and other ground-nesting birds. The varying habitats within the WMA provide additional hunting and wildlife viewing opportunities. Moose and abundant songbirds can be found by Western Massachusetts explorers with a keen eye (and a bit of good fortune). Game animals include white-tailed deer, ruffed grouse, snowshoe hare, eastern coyote, and black bear. To ensure safe and legal practices, prospective hunters should reference the State of Massachusetts hunting regulations website, as well as the link below, which describes site-specific hunting rules for the WMA.
Southeast of the Peru Road Parking Area are trout fishing opportunities in both Trout and Fuller Brooks. The Peru Wildlife Management Area is among the 220,000 acres owned and managed by MassWildlife. These lands conserve fish and wildlife while providing the public with outdoor recreation opportunities. The Peru WMA offers extensive options for outdoor activities and Berkshires natural beauty.
