Hunting | Hiking | Cross-Country Skiing
The Boulders is a 645-acre hiking and mountain biking area in Western Massachusetts managed by Berkshire Natural Resources Council. The Gulf Road trailhead provides access to an extensive network of trails traversing the entirety of the park and eventually climbing up to the viewpoint showcasing Pittsfield and the Berkshires. Upon leaving the parking lot on Gulf Road, visitors can follow the easy 0.5-mile Healthy Heart Loop or hop onto the 1.4-mile Green Trail. Hikers can jump onto the Red Trail at the far end of the Green Trail to add several miles to the walk. Visitors can also access the Blue Trail from the Red Trail and climb up to the Boulders for the view. Hunting and cross-country skiing on the property are options besides hiking and biking in The Boulders.
In addition, this parking area provides access to the Appalachian Trail, which heads north to Cheshire.
The Crane family acquired the property in the 19th century and opened the property to the public in 1994. MassWildlife then purchased a conservation restriction in 2004 to protect the land. The Boulders was donated in 2015 by Crane and Company to the Berkshire Natural Resources Council to ensure its continued protection and public use.
