Pittsfield, MA
Wildlife Viewing | Baseball/Softball
The Springside Park Playground is a small play area and hiking trailhead in Pittsfield's Springside Park. Visitors will have several options for an enjoyable day of outdoor recreation in the Berkshires. Upon arrival at the parking lot, visitors will see a small playground with a swing set and a slide. Nearby, there is also a picnic table under the shade of a large tree. Visitors can bring lunch, picnic, and then play on the playground. There is also an unmaintained baseball field, perfect for visitors hoping to practice their swing.
Past the playground, visitors will find an extensive network of hiking trails. These pathways travel through meadows and forests, which offer plenty of wildlife-viewing opportunities. The park then further connects to the local arboretum, a small pavilion, and another playground off Springside Avenue.
Springside Park is a 237-acre property managed by the City of Pittsfield. The property grew from the Springside House, constructed in the mid-1800s. After almost becoming a commercial golf course, the park experienced a revival and is now home to numerous Western Massachusetts outdoor recreation opportunities. The city currently plans to renovate the park's facilities, including possibly adding mountain biking trails.
Visitors will find a small parking lot at the end of the Springside Park dirt road, which branches directly from North Street.
