About Old Route 7 Greenway - North

The Old Route 7 Greenway in Great Barrington, MA, is a half-mile-long paved trail that connects the Jennifer Commons area with the Community Health Programs campus and provides an easy connection between the Fountain Pond State Park Three Mile Hill trail system. Previously, hikers who wanted to complete the loop would have to walk along the busy Stockbridge Road, which is very dangerous. The greenway removes this issue, allowing them to continue walking through the beautiful landscapes of the Berkshires to complete their journey. This half-mile trail is well-paved, smooth, flat, relatively straight, and free of debris. It passes through a beautiful meadow and some vegetation, which shelters it from the busy Stockbridge Road nearby. Additionally, the field is teeming with life. Countless species of wildflowers, such as goldenrod, purple loosestrife, and thyme, create a thriving habitat for pollinators and nesting birds. Visitors choosing to walk, run, or bike on the path will enjoy seeing this ecosystem in action, as it is also a perfect place for birding. The north entrance departs from the Community Health Campus, and it is an excellent location for family-friendly nature walks through the beautiful landscapes of the Berkshires in Western Massachusetts.
