About Brewer Pond Park

Brewer Pond Park is a quiet Monterey town park on the west side of Brewer Pond. A wide-open field encompasses most of the park, which provides ample space for picnicking, playing catch, or walking a dog. A small hill leads to the Brewer Pond Dam, where there is an excellent view of the water and surrounding forest. Visitors can explore a small inlet that provides even better pond views from a shaded and wooded area. Those looking to stretch their legs can take a quarter-mile walk on the Brewer Pond Trail, a flat and easy trek through the woods that connects to Monterey Town Beach. Because of this easy connection between town parks, Brewer Pond Park can be used to combine multiple outdoor adventures into one day, as the town beach and nearby boat launch offer additional recreation opportunities.

Brewer Pond is best known for providing excellent paddling. There is no dedicated boat launch at the park, but a nearby launching site at Lake Garfield offers those in small boats the opportunity to pass into Brewer Pond through a culvert under Tyringham Road. Others can hand-launch their boats from the park but must carry them up a small hill to reach the water. Those who launch their boats elsewhere are encouraged to stop by Brewer Pond Park to relax, take a lunch break, and enjoy the scenery. A picnic bench right by the shore provides a scenic spot to eat and take in the views, and there is plenty of additional space in the grass to find a shaded spot under a tree.

If visiting the park in the winter, the short hill leading to the water is a friendly, forgiving sledding spot for young kids. Additionally, Brewer Pond is a fantastic natural ice skating spot during the coldest periods in the Berkshires. In the fall, the park is a great place to take in the beautiful Western Massachusetts foliage, ideal for families or individuals who prefer not to go on a long hike or venture into the woods. The pond is surrounded mainly by evergreens that remain green throughout the year, but a backdrop of northern hardwoods lights up in red, orange, and yellow, making for a picturesque collage of color.

Brewer Pond Park is best suited for visitors looking for a quiet, easily accessible area to enjoy the outdoors. Its open space is ideal for passive outdoor activities, while the water and forest offer opportunities for more active excursions. The park can be accessed from Beartown Mountain Road, where a parking area can accommodate a couple of vehicles.
