The Tolland State Forest Campground is located on the Otis Reservoir in Otis, Massachusetts. Many of the campground’s 90 sites have waterfront views, and a beach provides visitors a space to access and enjoy the reservoir. A nearby boat launch also offers an entry point to the water, and the largest waterbody in the Berkshires, Otis Reservoir, offers plenty of water sports. From angling for several species to waterskiing, the 1,100 acres of water are promising for all seeking to enjoy aquatic activities. The 15-mile wooded perimeter makes portions of the reservoir excellent for paddling and/or observing waterfowl and other wildlife.
Adjacent to the campground is a network of forested hiking trails. Along Gilmore, Sawmill, and Farmington River Trails, keen-eyed visitors may spot beaver, bobcat, black bear, otter, and fox, among many other animals common within Western Massachusetts. Also found in abundance from May to July, mountain laurels are beautiful, pink-flowered plants that enhance the natural beauty of the Tolland State Forest and Otis Reservoir area.
The Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation owns and manages the Tolland State Forest and Otis Reservoir. Prospective campers, hunters, fishers, and boaters should refer to the website below for activity-specific rules and regulations. Visitors can utilize the same website for the Tolland State Forest Trail map.
