Parking Area South
Agawam Lake WMA
Stockbridge, MA
Wildlife Viewing | Hunting
This parking area for the Agawam Lake WMA will bring visitors directly to the management area’s Agawam Brook wetlands. These serene wetlands are home to many waterfowl species, making this parking area perfect for birding or hunting during appropriate seasons. Visitors can then travel southwards to Agawam Lake, where ice fishing for perch is often lucrative during wintertime. This area also offers excellent scenic views of the Berkshires, which rise steeply towards the west.
The Agawam Lake WMA is popular during white-tailed deer hunting season. The undeveloped forests and wetlands provide a tranquil environment for hunters to find deer. The WMA is also the location of a calcareous fen, which creates a habitat for some rare species native to Western Massachusetts.
Parking for the northern area of the WMA is on a sizable dirt shoulder off southbound Route 7 after it crosses Agawam Brook.
