Jug End State Reservation and WMA
Egremont, MA
Snowshoeing | Hunting | Hiking
North Egremont Wildlife Management Area is a small, tranquil public property in the Berkshires. A forest of maples and hemlocks dominates the property, and there is also an open meadow. There are plenty of wildlife-viewing opportunities within the WMA; songbirds and small mammals are abundant throughout the area. Hunting is also allowed during appropriate Western Massachusetts, but it is relatively limited due to the WMA’s small size.
The WMA additionally provides access to the Green River, which flows from New York to the Housatonic River. With an abundant stock of trout, this river is excellent for fishing in the spring. The river is also well-known as a cold swimming hole on hot summer days. Families can park, picnic, and swim under the sun.
A small parking lot is on the shoulder of Rowe Road, just after crossing the river.
