About Lower Gould Trail - West Mountain Road

This trailhead will bring visitors to a hiking and mountain biking area in Greylock Glen. Upon arrival at the parking lot, many options will be available.

For an easy hike, visitors can roam on the Moser Farm Loop (a 2.1 mile loop) or the Birch Meadow Trail (a 1.3 mile loop). While the Moser Farm Loop takes hikers through quiet forests and blooms of wildflowers, the Birch Meadow Trail ambles alongside groves of white birches and provides scenic views of Mount Greylock above. These trails are family-friendly, and plenty of Western Massachusetts wildlife—including chipmunks and birds—can be seen from the path.

The Gould Trail (which is 5.5 miles out and back to Greylock summit) and the Brookside Trail are more strenuous options. Both trails climb steadily on rocky terrain and eventually lead to the peak of Mount Greylock. At the summit, visitors can access panoramic views of the Berkshires and see the surrounding towns. This outlook becomes a well-known spot to watch the leaf colors change over the mountains during fall.

Hemlock Hollow, on the other hand, is a 1.0 mile machine-made mountain biking trail. High berms, rock features, and small jumps allow beginners and experts to practice their skills and flow through the forest.

The Gould Trail and Gould Trail Connector are open for hiking only. The Hemlock Hollow, Moser Farm, and Birch Meadow trails are open to Mountain Biking.

Parking for this trailhead can be found in a dirt lot off West Mountain Road.

Features
  • Adaptive Device Trail
  • Adaptive Equipment Trails (Mt. Biking and Skiing)

This site has a dirt lot with some small aggregate material (less than 2'' in diameter). The parking lot connects to the trail by a dirt path. The path is dirt and mostly flat; however, there are some portions where the grass on the sides of the trail has become overgrown and reaches over the trail. There are loose sticks and stones on the trail; however, due to the trail’s width, they are avoidable. This trails loops to the Cheshire Harbor trailhead. This trail can be done on adaptive equipment including adaptive mountain bikes.
