About Ashuwillticook Rail Trail - Park Street

This trailhead for the Ashuwillticook Rail Trail is in the center of downtown Adams. Visitors will find a picnic table at this trailhead, making it an excellent spot for a lunchtime pitstop in the Berkshires.

Going southward on the trail, visitors can proceed through a forest along the flows of the Hoosic River. Wildlife abounds in this forest, and bird songs are easily heard in the summertime. Traveling to the north, meanwhile, will bring visitors through downtown Adams. This section of the trail passes along businesses and restaurants, which can provide a lunch or dinner for those completing the path. Eventually, as they continue down the trail, visitors will arrive at another picnic area at Pleasant Street Park.

The Ashuwillticook Rail Trail is a family-friendly paved path from North Adams to Pittsfield. The trail was converted in the early 2000s from an old railroad line. Visitors will find the trail superb for biking, walking, wildlife viewing, or rollerblading in the Berkshires. The name "Ashuwillticook" translates to "river between the hills."

Because there is no designated parking for this section of the trail, visitors should park elsewhere in downtown Adams. Much of this section of the pathway has lampposts for safe travel at nighttime.
