About Fred Garner Park

Fred Garner Park is a family-friendly green space, hiking area, and paddling launch managed by the City of Pittsfield. When arriving at the parking lot, visitors will find an expansive lawn with plenty of tall trees. These trees provide ample shade on hot summer days in the Berkshires; visitors can lay a blanket, picnic, and watch the clouds pass overhead.

Next to the parking area, visitors will also find a small ramp leading into the East Branch of the Housatonic River. This is a perfect launch point for a day of canoeing or kayaking along the river, which soon merges with the West Branch. Visitors can relax and head down the river toward a take-out point in George L. Darey Housatonic Valley WMA.

Then, the back of the park features an .8 mile long network of hiking trails alongside the river. Many local Western Massachusetts wildlife species, especially birds and amphibians, will be visible near the water during spring and summer. Visitors can also go fishing for carp, pike, or trout.

Visitors will find the park alongside Pomeroy Avenue. There is a small paved road that leads to a large parking lot.
