About Ed Jones Road Parking Area

Ed Jones Road in Otis provides a parking area and access point to the northwest portion of the Farmington River Wildlife Management Area. Offering a wild, unmaintained landscape, the WMA is ideal for hunting, fishing, viewing wildlife, and experiencing the Berkshire outdoors. Bushwhacking is likely required throughout the property.

Parking on Ed Jones Road gives visitors close access to the Farmington River, which only runs through the western portion of the WMA and is stocked with trout by MassWildlife. Directly south of Ed Jones Road, a mixed woods forest provides excellent opportunities for game hunting. Wetlands and swamps are also found on the property, further diversifying the landscape.

The Farmington River Wildlife Management Area is just under 2,000 acres in size and touches Becket in addition to Otis. Recent tree and vegetation regrowth on 55 acres has provided an excellent habitat for diverse wildlife. White-tailed deer, ruffed grouse, snowshoe hare, black bear, river otter, American beaver, and waterfowl are common on the WMA. For wildlife viewers, dozens of bird species inhabit the area, and a keen-eyed explorer may find a moose. The Farmington River Wildlife Management Area in Otis provides an excellent opportunity to experience the revered natural beauty and wilderness of Western Massachusetts.

The Massachusetts hunting regulations website should be consulted by prospective hunters.
