Constitution Hill Trailhead West
Constitution Hill
Lanesborough, MA
Horseback Riding | Hiking | Cross-Country Skiing
Constitution Hill is an expansive hiking area managed by Berkshire Natural Resources Council (BNRC). Upon arriving at the parking lot, visitors will see a wide pathway through dense woodland. Then, after a short walk, the trail enters a vast meadow with impressive scenic views of the Berkshires toward the east. When the weather cools in autumn, these mountains burst with the yellows and oranges of fall foliage.
After a short distance, the pathway descends through the meadow and loops around at the bottom. Visitors will likely see plenty of local Western Massachusetts wildlife species along this trail, including butterflies and songbirds. Wildflowers are also abundant throughout the spring and summer.
At the western trailhead for Constitution Hill, visitors will hike along a steep ridgeline in an open forest. The pathway eventually reaches an old oak tree, commemorating Massachusetts' ratification of the US Constitution. After ratification, a local delegate lit a bonfire on this hill to notify the nearby towns.
Visitors will find parking for the property's eastern side on Bridge Street, just beyond the residential area. The property's western side has a trailhead further down Bridge Street. All of Constitution Hill is open for hunting during the appropriate season.
