Carrie Bak Park
Pittsfield, MA
Playground
Clapp Park is a play area, walking path, and athletic complex managed by the City of Pittsfield. The park is perfect for a day of family-friendly outdoor recreation in the Berkshires. For athletes, the park offers several opportunities for practice and competitive play. During the appropriate athletic seasons, the main lawn becomes a soccer field. The park also features an outdoor basketball court off eastbound West Housatonic Street.
At the front of the park, visitors will find an expansive baseball field. Batting cages line the side of the park, allowing players to practice their swing. An outdoor .36 mile walking track then surrounds the baseball field and provides space for walking or running.
There is also an additional baseball/softball field at the far corner of the park, near the end of the driveway. This field has bleachers for spectators.
Next to the basketball court, visitors will find a playground and a sprayscape. Families can picnic, eat lunch, and play on hot summer days. Then, there is a large sledding hill in wintertime, ideal for snow days in Western Massachusetts.
Visitors will find parking for Clapp Park along a small driveway off West Housatonic Street. There is also a dirt parking lot further down the driveway.
Tell others about this place
Clapp Park has two parking areas. The first is a small gravel lot located by the entrance, off the gravel entrance road. The second is a large gravel lot at the end of the entrance road. From the parking areas, a dirt path leads to a 9-foot-wide, 0.36-mile-long gravel walking track. The walking track is smooth and flat. The walking track encircles two baseball fields. The one nearest the playground features a dirt path that leads directly to home plate from the walking path. The dirt path is 5 feet wide. From the walking track, a 5-foot-wide paved path leads up to the playground, splash pad, and bathrooms. The bathrooms and splash pad are directly accessible from the path; however, the playground equipment is separated from the path by woodchips with a 1-inch wood lip running around the playground. By the playground, there is also a 5-foot-wide path leading into the nearby neighborhoods. There is also a basketball court that is separated from the path by a grass embankment.
