Berkshire Community College (BCC) offers plenty of outdoor recreational opportunities that are open to the public on its sprawling 180-acre campus located in Western Pittsfield, adjacent to the Pittsfield State Forest.
The Paterson Field House, a community gym that hosts a fitness center and locker rooms – also oversees the Paul A. Raverta Tennis Courts, with its four lined outdoor pickle ball courts, and the BCC Swimming Pool. These outdoor activities are open seasonally to folks who have a Paterson gym membership
Next to the BCC Pool and the Paterson Field House is the Gene Dellea Community Turf field, which hosts high school soccer, football, lacrosse and other outdoor sporting activities.
Finally, behind the Ralph Hoffmann Environmental Center on campus is access to the Jonathan Lambert Trail, which is open year-round to hikers, cross country runners, snowshoe enthusiasts, and more. The nature trail wanders through open fields and woodlands with numbered posts along the way that indicate points of natural significance.

At Berkshire Community College, there is a designated visitor parking area. In the visitor parking area, there are four accessible parking spaces. However, on the road right by the visitor parking area, there are 16 accessible parking spaces, and down by the Paterson Field House, there are five accessible parking spaces. From the visitor parking area, visitors can walk through the center of campus or around the campus to access the Jonathan Lambert Trail. The route through the middle of campus requires visitors to walk up stairs, whereas the route around campus has no stairs. There are two entrances to the Jonathan Lambert Trail, both of which are on the backside of campus. The one by the Ralph Hoffmann Environmental Science and Sustainable Energy Center requires visitors to walk up a grass hill to access the trail, while the entrance behind Melville Hall has a paved entrance that leads onto a double track trail. The Jonathan Lambert Trail is an 8 to 10-foot-wide grass trail. The trail runs through a field behind the campus, and it is occasionally steeper than 12% and occasionally has a cross slope over 5%. Down across West Street from the main campus is the Paterson Field House, Gene Dellea Community Turf field, and Paul A. Raverta Tennis Courts. If visitors wish to walk from visitor parking to this area, they will need to walk down a couple of flights of stairs; however, there is accessible parking available by the field house. From the accessible parking located at the field house, there is a path that runs past the field house down by the community turf field and then over to the tennis complex. This trail is 6 feet wide. The Gene Dellea Community Turf field contains two 4-foot-wide accessible ramps providing access to the bleachers located above the field. The entrance to the turf field is also a 3-foot gate. The Paul A. Raverta Tennis Courts have a 4-foot-wide entrance gate and accessible path. The Paterson field house is accessible by path, has ADA push button doors, and accessible bathrooms inside. The pool does not contain any accessible water access features.
