About Cheshire Street Parking

The Cheshire Road Parking Area is an entry point to a portion of the Windsor State Forest and the adjacent Eugene D. Moran Wildlife Management Area. Visitors can expect the state forest to consist of mixed woods, and can follow a trail into the WMA that will initially provide a similar landscape. Further along, visitors may find that the WMA offers various landscapes, including abandoned agricultural fields, shrubland habitats, and young forests. These diverse habitat types provide excellent options for both wildlife viewing and hunting.

A site for prime Berkshires birding, Eugene D. Moran WMA has been visited by nearly 200 bird species. Visitors have spotted uncommon species such as the American bittern, northern harrier, and Wilson’s snipe. Many other species rely on its unique environment. Offering premier Western Massachusetts game bird hunting, the WMA is home to and allows the pursuit of American woodcock, ruffed grouse, and pheasants. Additional hunting opportunities exist for visitors hoping to find white-tailed deer, wild turkeys, and black bears on the land.

Most of the Windsor State Forest is located a couple miles west of the parcel and is accessible from the Cheshire Street Parking Area. The Eugene D. Moran Wildlife Management Area is a 1,800-acre property entirely in Windsor, MA, and includes this portion of Windsor State Forest in its property. To ensure safe and legal hunting practices, hunters should reference the State of Massachusetts hunting regulations website.
