American Legion Field is located on North Street in Dalton, on the property of Dalton's American Legion veterans' organization. The property has a primary baseball field, which hosts youth and adult competitive and recreational athletic leagues, and plenty of open field space for other outdoor activities. A basketball hoop invites recreational players to shoot a basketball, and numerous picnic tables are open for seating. Horseshoe pits are available to American Legion members, and a large asphalt parking lot provides dozens of car spaces. Beyond the field, a small pond allows visitors to enjoy and view waterfowl that may emerge from the adjacent wooded area. Above this tree line, visitors can see evidence of the Berkshire Hills.
The American Legion also invites guests into its lounge area, which sometimes hosts live music shows and offers a full catering service and event space. Also noteworthy is that the Dalton American Legion veteran's organization hosts karaoke nights on Fridays, with specific event information and updates available on their Facebook page.
American Legion Field is also the site of the Dalton Carnival, a five-day event featuring amusement park rides, games, food, and fireworks. The Carnival is the perfect place for family fun and helps support the local community of Dalton. The Carnival typically runs in early to mid-June, and more info can be found on the American Legion Facebook page.
The American Legion was founded in 1919 to serve veterans, servicemembers, and communities. Founding a powerful baseball program and dedicating funds to youth development and recreation (are just two examples of their many accomplishments), the American Legion has since built spaces like Dalton's American Legion Field throughout the nation.

When visiting American Legion Field, visitors will first notice a large asphalt parking lot providing ample parking. While the parking lot does not have formal accessible parking, visitors are still able to park quite close to both the fields and the American Legion Building. The asphalt parking lot is flat and in good condition, making it quite accessible to traverse. There are no paved or formal trails running from the parking lot to either the playing fields or the picnic area by the pond. This lack of a path can pose an accessibility challenge to some visitors. The picnic area in the back can be accessed from East Deming St. via a gravel path, but there is a gate between the street and the picnic area that is routinely shut, impeding accessibility to the area.
