About Adams Visitor Center

The Adams Visitor Center is an information center and trailhead north of downtown Adams. Inside, visitors will find a small ski museum and public restrooms. The visitor center's parking lot also has picnic tables and benches, making this building a convenient lunchtime pitstop on a warm summer day.

The center also serves as a trailhead for the Ashuwillticook Trail: a repurposed railroad pathway that travels from North Adams to Pittsfield for 14 miles. The family-friendly trail is perfect for biking, walking, wildlife viewing, and rollerblading through small Western Massachusetts towns. Going south on the path, visitors will travel alongside the restaurants and shops of downtown Adams. Further on, visitors will arrive in the Town of Cheshire. There, the Cheshire Reservoir offers expansive scenic views of the surrounding mountains.

Meanwhile, on its way north, the trail will continue between the Hoosic River and a railroad track until the path ends in North Adams. Visitors on this section of the pathway will see the Hoosac Range rising toward the east.

A large parking lot is on the south side of Hoosac Street, in front of the visitor center. Hoosac Valley Train rides (themed rides from Adams to North Adams) also start from here throughout the year.
