Wildlife Viewing | Snowshoeing | Hiking
The Thorpe Brook Wildlife Conservation Easement is located on Clark Road in Sandisfield. With over 250 acres of hardwood forest, the easement provides excellent wildlife viewing and hunting opportunities. To improve the quality of these activities, acres of the property have been thinned, which has increased biodiversity and prevalence of game species.
Giving the easement its name, Thorpe Brook runs west to east through the property's southern end before joining the West Branch of the Farmington River. This feature diversifies the forested landscape and provides habitat for amphibians and other small aquatic animals. Overall, the easement provides a more rugged landscape than traditionally maintained hiking trails, which can be attractive for visitors hoping to primitively experience the Western Massachusetts outdoors.
Per MassWildlife, a wildlife conservation easement demands its property be maintained with a focus on conserving the natural landscape (or more specific aspects of the land) while remaining in possession of the landowner. Landowners of conservation easements have agreed to grant the public access to the land, which is typically open for fishing, hunting, and trapping.
Thorpe Brook Wildlife Conservation Easement is an ideal location for those hoping to participate in the outlined outdoor sports or visitors trying to explore and experience a raw Berkshire landscape.
