Schiffman Woods is a small property and hiking area, perfect for a short day of hiking in the Berkshires. Upon arrival at the parking lot, visitors will find an informational sign and a narrow trail leading into the woods. This narrow .5-mile pathway takes visitors on a loop through a forest of maples and white pines. Some sections of the path also pass on a boardwalk over a forested wetland.
Eventually, halfway through the trail, visitors will reach a peaceful bench. This seat is an excellent place to relax and look for Western Massachusetts wildlife species; a rich diversity of bird species thrives in this forest throughout the summer. Also, plenty of wildflower species, including trout lily and trillium, are abundant on the forest floor in spring. After leaving the bench, visitors can continue looking for wildlife as they hike back to the parking lot through more forests and wetlands.
Visitors will find parking in a small lot on the shoulder of West Road. The property's trail is open for snowshoeing and cross-country skiing in the winter.
