The Roosevelt Reserve is located off Middlefield Road in Washington, Massachusetts. The reserve comprises 106 acres of mature forests and several wetlands. The reserve lacks trails and provides an opportunity for a primitive outdoor excursion in the Berkshires. Through their exploration, visitors may find the reserve fosters top-tier birding and wildlife viewing.
With a peaceful landscape unique to the rural areas of Western Massachusetts, Roosevelt Reserve provides a habitat for various wildlife. The area includes deer, bears, wild turkeys, and numerous waterfowl attracted to the reserve's wetland ecosystems. Keen-eyed visitors could spot moose. Hunting on the property is forbidden.
The Roosevelt Reserve is owned and managed by the Berkshire Natural Resources Council, which operates and maintains countless hiking trails and properties throughout Berkshire County. While Roosevelt Reserve does not offer formal hiking or walking trails, the property is open for hiking and public use. In addition to the outdoor offerings at the reserve, Washington and its surrounding towns provide several outdoor recreation opportunities.
Washington is in the eastern portion of Berkshire County and is near portions of the Appalachian Trail. Additionally, the town of Becket borders Washington to the south and is home to several of the county's cultural and outdoor landmarks.
